Anfrage | InquireJede Zeit hat ihre Symbolik und jede Gesellschaft braucht Zeichen Ihrer Macht. Das Verhältnis von Macht und Individuum ist für Jens-Christian Wittig Gegenstand einer Serie, die primär in Rom – der ewigen Stadt inspiriert wurde.
Die Architektur im alten Rom war stark von der Vorstellung geprägt, Macht und Autorität über die Bevölkerung auszuüben. Monumentale Bauwerke wie das Kolosseum oder das Forum Romanum sollten die Größe und Stärke des Römischen Reiches repräsentieren und die Herrschaft der römischen Kaiser über die Massen der Bevölkerung betonen. Die Architektur wurde auch genutzt, um die Rolle der verschiedenen sozialen Schichten zu verdeutlichen. So gab es im antiken Rom beispielsweise Paläste für die Kaiser und Patrizier, aber auch öffentliche Badehäuser, Märkte und Theater für die breite Bevölkerung.
Die Darstellung von Führung über den Einzelnen war ebenfalls ein wichtiger Aspekt der römischen Kunst.
Auch die katholische Kirche übt bis heute Macht und Einfluss auf das Individuum aus. In der christlichen Kunst wurden oft Szenen aus der Bibel dargestellt, um die Macht Gottes und der Kirche über die Gläubigen zu betonen. Kirchen und Kathedralen wurden als monumentale und prachtvolle Bauwerke errichtet, um die Macht und den Einfluss der Kirche zu zeigen.
Jens-Christian Wittig setzt sich in einer Serie mit dem Verhältnis von Mensch und übermächtiger Architektursymbolik auseinander. In seiner Kunst spiegelt sich wie Architektur gezielt genutzt wird, um Machtverhältnisse zu verdeutlichen und Autorität über die Massen der Bevölkerung auszuüben.
Dabei überhöht er Maßstäblichkeiten und untersetzt die Architekturen und ihre Symbolik der Macht mit Bewegung und Licht.
Das Licht, die Form sowie die Bewegung dominieren über das Individuum. Ber Mensch ist klein, das System ist groß. Und es zieht in seinen Bann, umarmt und erleuchtet den Menschen in seiner Kleinheit.

In a series, Jens-Christian Wittig deals with the relationship between people and overpowering architectural symbolism. His art reflects how architecture is used in a targeted manner to clarify power relations and to exercise authority over the masses of the population.
